Analyses trait Day 4

Having seen Chinatown and Arab street, it seems like alot of the cultural towns are very influenced with these western/European buildings. Though, the ones throughout Little India were more colourful than most buildings that I have seen in the few days I have been in Singapore. Even the temples too.

It still had some Chinese influences within the town and most at one end of Buffalo Street, where it was alot of the Jewellery stores decked with red and a lot of outstanding gold jewellery .

Though, with the Indian design, its very widespread and complex floral designs and gold is used mostly to deck out the designs on the fashion and accessories. On the male fashion, it is a bit more subtle but a floral aspect is still imprinted but the colours are bright. The women's fashion and accessories are the extreme with so many colours, complex patterns or beading applied

As for Orchard road....I'm gonna have to explore it out on my own sometime on the weekend.

Day 4 - Little India & Orchard Road

Recovering from the big day yesterday, today was a nice and fun break. We started the morning outing by catching a bus out to Little India. Just seeing the first set of shops was enough to excite me for a shopping spree, which is NOT good DX. We were given 1 and 1/2 hours (I think) to freely wonder the area and take pictures. I went with a small group and we first explored an upstairs complex which had alot of Indian accessories, dresses and clothes for sale.

Afterwards, we wandered around the streets. There were many jewellery shops that sold alot of gold and bold Jewellery and yet the jewellery shops were owned by Chinese as this was evident with the staff working there and how the jewellery was displayed upon red.

There were also alot of those '3 for $10' shops around. I'm starting to notice that alot of shops try to get you to buy in bulk or quantities = ="

There were some beauty boutiques around, and they especially had henna. The first thing that came to my mind stepping into Little India was to get some henna art done on me.

This was a tourist we walked past getting henna done on her arm.

I wanted something cheap and pretty :)

One of the group memebers lead the way to this shopping complex called Mustafa Centre. The centre was like BHG + a supermarket + Lincraft . It was good to get into an air conditioned area for a while but the security at the door decided to oh so kindly seal my bags with some security wire. GREAT!!! and i don't have any scissors to free me bags either!
*BHG is like Myers or David Jones back in Australia

Our free time was up and we all gathered back to the meeting spot to head to lunch at a Indian restaurant.
Indian cuisine doesn't quite work well with my stomach and I really dislike curry but I still had to eat so I had Tandori chicken, which was a bit overcooked = ="
After lunch, we headed to the MRT station where we would be heading Orchard Road. I had been looking foreward to checking out Orchard Road. Though, it had to be gloomy wet weather and humid too =="

From this point, we were set free to wonder around and do as we liked for the rest of the day.

Analyses trait Day 3

Hmmm...We visited up to 5 places today so what did i pick up that was really interesting?

The first place we visited was the National Singapore Design Centre. I didn't really see anything really appealing except the architecture design displays at the entrance but while we were in the lecture/ presentation theatre, the 5 minute video that was shown was very inspiring as it was a small documentary about design and what it was about. I thought it was put together really well as well.

There were some nice geometric patterns in the banners ...heh heh

Though, the highlight of the day was when we visited the design hub, which was a interior designers' and architectural's playground in my opinion as it had sooooo many materials for designing a house. My favourite section was the wallpaper section as the wall paper had so many beautiful designs, whether it be floral or geometrical and because wallpaper design has to be made in a way that it continues to overlap without obvious ends, the inspiring aspect of that part is the 'continuous' factor.

There was also this painting that was located in the art centre area of the Design Hub. I don't know much about abstract art like this but it's very colourful and positive from my perspective. The colour aspect could be a inspirational factor :)

Day 3 - Design Center, Design Hub,Packaging, Recycling & Beer

Today was a very eventful and tiring day as we would be visiting quite a few places.

We started the day off by walking down to the National Design Centre near the Inter-Continental Hotel, in Bugis. There, we were given a tour around the centre with some interesting facts about the gallery such as it being a chapel and a all girls' school. A small lecture on what graphic design was about was given as well by our guide, whom was a renown architecture.

Afterwards, we caught a couch to out next destination, where he had lunch and then explored the Design Hub, a architectures' playground and there were so many show rooms/cases of things for designing a home. The building I think had 13 floors and the very top floor overlooked the sea and one could even see the edge of Malaysia.

Front of Design Hub

Some Kitchen show cases

This was a beautiful rug that was on display just outside the art centre area....

Nifty Bathroom show case

Pretty Titles :3

My favourite area of the Design Hub was where the wallpaper was. They had a Huge collection and display of wall paper designs.
This was one of the giant wallpaper prints on display. I love the Aussie icon there loool and the grunge effect over it.

Afterwards, we then headed to a packaging factory, where bubble-wrap and other forms of package protection was created. The company was called Sealed Air.

We were given a tour around the factory but we were not allowed to take any pics but the products they offered were pretty nifty besides the bubblewrap like ...I'm not sure what it's called but its like a liquid to foam product that expanded to fit the item needing protection.
Though, producing that much plastic, one would wonder where it goes but the company have a way to recycle alot of the things they make, like remelting the plastic down to recreate more bubble wrap or other air products and they will even go out and collect the material outside the company and bring it back to be recycled.

After that, we were all growing exhausted. Our next destination wasn't quite a looker as it was a plastic recycling place, where plastics were melted down and created into a form where it would then be sent out to be reused to create new products but product that were of lesser quality. It was interesting....=="

Just a little something they gave us all as a small souvenir... a comb made from the recycled plastic.

Then, for the final destination and one that which of many classmates had been looking foreward too was the Tiger Beer factory. We were given a tour around the place, showing us how beer was made, and where. Not so much on the packaging design but at the end, everyone headed for the pub within the factory for free beer. I sort of passed since I couldn't really consume any of the stuff since I was on meds.
