Orchard Road

Today I decided to explore Orchard Road a bit more on my own. A bit more freedom to move around and explore the places as I please.

During the week, I had explored more of the market places than the big shopping centre areas. I did go to Bugis Junction as well but I more went to the eatery areas. It is also understandable that since Singapore is a mostly Asian influenced place but I noticed MANY Japanese/Korean cuisine to that of other Asian Cuisine.
Anyways, Just having walked around Orchard Road, It was all about the BIG brands, which made a lot of the shopping quite pricey when one is already seeking cheap meal alternatives :P e.g. Louis Vouton, Chanel and etc. But it also showed that there would be a lot of competition to make sales, especially close to a start of a financial year. Once again, because most places prohibited picture taking, I could only get so many examples really.

Just walking around ION and Takashimaya, the design was more sophisticated and somewhat fancy rather than bold and minimal colours with silver/gold or black/white being stronger in colour presence, allowing the products to stand out. Though, Lauduree was a exception what with its pastel coloured and floral bordering design for its macarons. I’m thinking that one was paying more for the branding and packaging over the macarons. A box of 6 macarons costed around $33 SGD ><

Even I got this one for $13 SGD at City Hall

Anyways, one of my goals for the day was to find a Fish Spa and there was one located out at Orchard Central, which I wasn’t anticipating quite a walk but I managed to find it. Orchard shopping centre wasn’t like the other shopping centres, infact it was almost a bit opposite.
For starters, I found my Fish Spa place but it was a bit trick to find as navigating the shopping centre was a bit tricky. Most of the time, you would be better off getting the elevators to get to where you wanted to go and Orchard Centre was, you could say, one half of a building while the other half was another Orchard shopping centre. The building had quite a number of floors too.

The elevators to get around.

The thing that stood out the most was the design aspect of the shops and they even had this 1980’s themed event going on on the first floor which was bold, bright and ‘flashy’ ish LOL

Hippy and bright/bold colours splashed across these vehicles and there were different stores displaying and selling their products that were displayed on the bonnet or in the back of the vehicles.

Day 4 - Little India & Orchard Road

Recovering from the big day yesterday, today was a nice and fun break. We started the morning outing by catching a bus out to Little India. Just seeing the first set of shops was enough to excite me for a shopping spree, which is NOT good DX. We were given 1 and 1/2 hours (I think) to freely wonder the area and take pictures. I went with a small group and we first explored an upstairs complex which had alot of Indian accessories, dresses and clothes for sale.

Afterwards, we wandered around the streets. There were many jewellery shops that sold alot of gold and bold Jewellery and yet the jewellery shops were owned by Chinese as this was evident with the staff working there and how the jewellery was displayed upon red.

There were also alot of those '3 for $10' shops around. I'm starting to notice that alot of shops try to get you to buy in bulk or quantities = ="

There were some beauty boutiques around, and they especially had henna. The first thing that came to my mind stepping into Little India was to get some henna art done on me.

This was a tourist we walked past getting henna done on her arm.

I wanted something cheap and pretty :)

One of the group memebers lead the way to this shopping complex called Mustafa Centre. The centre was like BHG + a supermarket + Lincraft . It was good to get into an air conditioned area for a while but the security at the door decided to oh so kindly seal my bags with some security wire. GREAT!!! and i don't have any scissors to free me bags either!
*BHG is like Myers or David Jones back in Australia

Our free time was up and we all gathered back to the meeting spot to head to lunch at a Indian restaurant.
Indian cuisine doesn't quite work well with my stomach and I really dislike curry but I still had to eat so I had Tandori chicken, which was a bit overcooked = ="
After lunch, we headed to the MRT station where we would be heading Orchard Road. I had been looking foreward to checking out Orchard Road. Though, it had to be gloomy wet weather and humid too =="

From this point, we were set free to wonder around and do as we liked for the rest of the day.
