Day 3 - Design Center, Design Hub,Packaging, Recycling & Beer

Today was a very eventful and tiring day as we would be visiting quite a few places.

We started the day off by walking down to the National Design Centre near the Inter-Continental Hotel, in Bugis. There, we were given a tour around the centre with some interesting facts about the gallery such as it being a chapel and a all girls' school. A small lecture on what graphic design was about was given as well by our guide, whom was a renown architecture.

Afterwards, we caught a couch to out next destination, where he had lunch and then explored the Design Hub, a architectures' playground and there were so many show rooms/cases of things for designing a home. The building I think had 13 floors and the very top floor overlooked the sea and one could even see the edge of Malaysia.

Some Kitchen show cases

This was a beautiful rug that was on display just outside the art centre area....

Nifty Bathroom show case

Pretty Titles :3

My favourite area of the Design Hub was where the wallpaper was. They had a Huge collection and display of wall paper designs.
This was one of the giant wallpaper prints on display. I love the Aussie icon there loool and the grunge effect over it.

Afterwards, we then headed to a packaging factory, where bubble-wrap and other forms of package protection was created. The company was called Sealed Air.

We were given a tour around the factory but we were not allowed to take any pics but the products they offered were pretty nifty besides the bubblewrap like ...I'm not sure what it's called but its like a liquid to foam product that expanded to fit the item needing protection.
Though, producing that much plastic, one would wonder where it goes but the company have a way to recycle alot of the things they make, like remelting the plastic down to recreate more bubble wrap or other air products and they will even go out and collect the material outside the company and bring it back to be recycled.

After that, we were all growing exhausted. Our next destination wasn't quite a looker as it was a plastic recycling place, where plastics were melted down and created into a form where it would then be sent out to be reused to create new products but product that were of lesser quality. It was interesting....=="

Just a little something they gave us all as a small souvenir... a comb made from the recycled plastic.

Then, for the final destination and one that which of many classmates had been looking foreward too was the Tiger Beer factory. We were given a tour around the place, showing us how beer was made, and where. Not so much on the packaging design but at the end, everyone headed for the pub within the factory for free beer. I sort of passed since I couldn't really consume any of the stuff since I was on meds.
